This genus contains about 230 accepted species including Iris pallida Lam, the pale iris.<\/p>\n

In France, the nursery la p\u00e9pini\u00e8re des Avettes4)<\/sup> is the owner of the national collection (Conservatoire des Collections V\u00e9g\u00e9tales Sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9es5)<\/sup>).<\/p>\n

2. History<\/h2>\n

Iris is a word of Greek origin designating the messenger of the gods, personification of the rainbow. And indeed, the iris can be found in almost every color of the rainbow.<\/p>\n

3. Application<\/h2>\n

Iris essential oil is widely used in high-end perfumes, cosmetics and soaps6)<\/sup>. In traditional pharmacopoeias, Iris is used for its astringent, diuretic, expectorant properties.<\/p>\n

4. Genetic identification<\/h2>\n
